A student-led idea from Nova Scotia

A second life for milk.A new idea for plant care.

We're exploring how repurposed milk could become a gentle liquid fertilizer for houseplants and home gardens.

Good things deserve to grow again

Some milk never reaches a glass. It sits past its date, goes unsold, or is poured away. We think it deserves a second life, in the soil, helping the little things you love to grow.

The Dairee team, Halifax

01 / The idea

What gets left behind could start something new.

Dairee is a student-led startup asking a simple question: could milk that would otherwise be wasted become a useful fertilizer for plants?

We're developing the idea carefully, with home gardeners and houseplant lovers in mind. The product is still in development, and its formulation and performance haven't been validated yet.

02 / Why milk?

An old garden trick, tested properly.

Gardeners have tried watering plants with diluted milk for generations. Plenty of people swear by it, but there's very little careful testing behind it.

Dairee wants to find out what's really true: which parts of milk might help plants, how much is useful, and what goes wrong when you get it wrong.

What's in milk

These are the parts of milk we're investigating, not proven benefits.

  • CalciumA nutrient plants use to build cell walls
  • ProteinContains nitrogen, released as it breaks down in soil
  • Potassium & phosphorusPresent in small amounts
  • Sugars & fatCan feed mould and cause smells if overused

Our job is to keep what helps and solve what doesn't.

03 / Our process: planned development path

How milk could find a new purpose.

This is Dairee's planned development path, not a validated production process or a finished formula.

04 / The product idea

A little bottle. A bigger idea.

We're exploring a liquid fertilizer that fits the everyday routines of indoor growers and home gardeners: a few drops in the watering can, not a new hobby.

What we're exploring

  • A liquid fertilizer you add while watering
  • Made with repurposed, otherwise-unused milk
  • Simple packaging sized for houseplants

What we don't know yet

  • How plants actually respond
  • Shelf life, stability and odour
  • Price and the best format

Honest, from the start.

Still in development. Formulation and performance haven't been validated yet, and we'll measure before we make claims.

In development. Not yet for sale.

For dairies, farms & grocers

Have milk you can't sell?

We're learning where unused milk comes from and what it would take to collect it. If you run a dairy, farm, grocery store or café in Nova Scotia, we'd love a short conversation. No commitment needed.

07 / Questions

Fair questions.

Can I buy Dairee?

Not yet. Dairee is a concept in development. Join the list above and we'll let you know if and when there's a prototype to try.

Is it safe for my plants?

We don't know yet, and that's exactly what our evaluation stage is for. We won't make any claims until we've tested how plants respond.

Won't milk smell?

It's a fair worry, and one of the first things we're testing alongside shelf life and stability. If we can't solve it, we won't ship it.

Where would the milk come from?

We're exploring sources of milk that would otherwise go unused, such as surplus or unsold product, and learning what reliable collection and storage would require.

I work at a dairy, retailer or lab. Can we talk?

Yes, please. We'd love to hear from people who know milk, plants or product testing. Email us.
